Cancer is a word that puts fear in all of us. The uncertainty of what lies ahead is not something we want to go through alone, but so often, we do not know where to turn for help. God’s answer to our troubled lives can be found in Joshua 1:5 ” I will never leave you nor forsake you”. The Cancer Support Ministry of our Church provides educational, spiritual and emotional support to cancer survivors, their families and friends who serve as caregivers. We provide a safe place to meet, talk, share, learn and support one another and identify resources for care.
Living with cancer every day is becoming the norm for some persons in our congregation. The road to healing is a difficult one that will pose many challenges to all dimensions of a patient’s life – physical, emotional and spiritual. Being there 100% of the time can be draining on the caregiver or other family members, and leave them feeling helpless and sometimes hopeless. As we all participate in this journey, we each have words of inspiration and healing to share that will give us a sense of optimism and hope. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
There is Hope…
When those we love are suffering, we sometimes feel helpless and wish we could do more to help. We can lift their needs up to the Lord in prayer and cry out to Him on their behalf. Because the treatment process often hinders a person’s own spiritual outlook, our support can make all the difference. Next to God, we need each other most. The need is great in our church to comfort those on this journey, and to share the hope we have found in Jesus Christ.
